How do you brag about just one person when everyone who works at Harmony becomes part of your family? Fourteen months ago our daughter, Brooklyn, became a part of the Harmony family and from that day on we couldn’t be happier. Brooklyn started at Harmony when she was thirteen months old in the infant room, where she was loved, cuddled, soothed and nurtured by everyone who came through those infant doors. Today at twenty-seven months old, Brooklyn is in the toddler room where she is loved, challenged, encouraged and motivated by every staff member. From the minute that I tell Brooklyn it is time to go to school until the time I pick her up she is thrilled to be going to school. When we open our car door and are ready to go to school se says, “see Miss Christina, give her a hug.” Once those Harmony doors open, Miss Janet’s warm smile and heartfelt greeting greet us. Then as we enter the Toddler room, Brooklyn embraces Miss Christina in a tight hug, which is returned by Miss Christina as if Brooklyn was her own daughter. It doesn’t stop there! The love that Brooklyn has in her body and the person that she is becoming is in part due to the caring staff of Harmony. We never hear the end of the stories and the fun she has with Miss Jill, Miss Tiffany, Miss Dana and of course Miss Christina. As a parent, you can’t as k for anything else but for your child to feel safe and loved when you leave them and we know that Brooklyn is. When I pick her up everyday, the first thing hear is, “Mom, I’m so happy!” Who could ask for anything else? I know that everyone at Harmony has something to do with Brooklyn being so happy and because of that I can’t brag about just one person at Harmony but about everyone!

One of our favorite things about Ella’s Pre-K class is the singing. Every new season and holiday Ella comes home singing a new song – or sometimes five! Clearly Ms. Michelle and her team enjoy singing with the children and teaching them new songs. Recently we had a few Harmony families to our home; the four Pre-K girls all sang together. It was adorable and a tribute to Ms. Michelle and the Harmony team. Clearly, as evidenced by the school name, sharing the joy of music is vital to the education of the students. We love hearing each new song. Keep up the great work!

As both a Harmony alumni and parent, I am particularly excited about Harmony’s 30th Anniversary. I started at Harmony in 1981 at the original Fulton Street location as a three year old and attended through kindergarten. For many years after graduation, my brother and I went to Harmony’s summer camp too! Some of my fondest memories of Harmony include learning to read (The Giving Tree), art projects, playing outside, snack time (apple juice and graham crackers), and sitting around the piano singing and swaying with Miss Lisa at the keys.
As a Harmony parent, I’ve had the opportunity to see the school through the lens my mother must have many years ago. I now understand how hard it is to find a place where you are comfortable leaving your child – a place where your baby spends a large amount of her waking hours. I feel so lucky to have Harmony! I love that my daughter is excited to see Miss Maria in the morning and that often (while excited to see me at the end of the day) she still wants to stay with Courtney and her classmates for a few more minutes before I take her home. I know she is being interacted with and taught in the same ways that I would be interacting with her at home and all in the company of other terrific kids to learn from and play with. I could not be more thankful!
A work like balance is a challenge for all working parents. Harmony is what makes it possible for my family. Happy Anniversary Harmony from an incredibly grateful alumni and parent!
